The third day of the trip was a half-day trip to Sergiev Posad Monastery, some 70 km from Moscow. This monastery was the heart of Russian Orthodox religion and was the place where many Tsars were baptised, coronated and buried.
After the sightseeing in the monastery, we went to a pedestrian street for some shopping and lunch. G and I had a hard time deciding on the Russian dolls to buy and also some other souvenirs. Lunch was spent in this Moo Moo shop which served affordable Russian fares. I ordered Borsch which was basically beetroot and beef soup. Normally, I wouldn't have eaten beetroot but this soup was surprisingly good.
