Windermere

A super overdue trip which JH and I intended to make in the previous academic year but due to time constraints and lack of planning... The trip finally materialized after an impromptu decision. Even the planning was done just days before leaving. Still, it was a good excuse to chuck all the tiresome school stuff away and immerse myself in this trip.

The first part of the trip was actually to Manchester where JH's sis stays. On the next day when we are leaving Manchester, we woke up a little later than planned. After a quick but hearty breakfast courtesy of JH's sis, we left for our car to find that the parking warden was walking about. Afraid that we have been issued a ticket, we rushed to our car. Lucky for us, we were spared, else the fine would have spoiled the beautiful day.

En-route to Windermere/ Beautiful day

World of Beatrix Potter

One attraction of Windermere is its Beatrix Potter museum. For some of us, Beatrix Potter's Peter rabbit was a childhood friend. Interestingly, the museum promised sight, sound and smell. Well, poor students do what poor students do best: take photos of the exterior and save the money.

Cruising Lake Windermere

It would be pointless coming to Windermere without cruising its lake. Our first site was Lakeside. Along the way, we saw some rainbows. Even after knowing the physics of it, I still think of them as magical.

Went to Ambleside next but the sky grew dark quickly. Without our car, we have to walk for a mile to its city centre in the cold. Then, we realised that the restaurant, the glass house, where we were to have our dinner was not open until an hour later. In the end, we took a bus (they operate in very limited timeslots) back to Windermere to retrieve our car to drive back to Ambleside. Somehow having a car makes everything so accessible.
Needless to say, we splurged on our dinner (our only main meal that day) but I believe it was well worth it.

Orrest Head

Sunday morning, the day we were to leave Windermere. After an oily, salty but super-filling breakfast from our B&B, we left in pursuit for an easy trail to hike before leaving. Even the weather was perfect! Orrest head, an easy and short hike, seemed to encompass our expectations of lake district: the beautiful scenery, the never-ending fields and the lakes. Completing what we wanted, it's back to busy London.

I wouldn't be surprised if I were to return to lake district again since it's a huge place and we barely explored it. Must thank JH for driving me around!
