It will started with signing the contract for our housing. I do admit that it was our fault for not transmitting the money immediately upon receiving the housing contract but surely, the difference in time zone must be considered. Trivial as this may sound, it was the principal reason for the change in housing which landed the group of us in a more dismal condition. We wouldn't have mind if the changed accommodation was charged at a cheaper rate. However, according to the landlord, the single-bedroom house was rented at an equivalent rate to that of the agreed two-bedroom place. It was difficult to believe this since the 1-room house was also located further from Harvard. Added to that, the landlord felt that it was 'psychologically tiring' for her to 'accommodate' us any further.
That brought to another point. As undergraduates, the word seemed to portray an image of self-destructing fiends borne to wreck havoc in pretty houses. This must have been the reason why we got rejected by so many landlords. This ridiculous stereotype reached its pinnacle when we declared ourselves as 'no-party & no-sex' when asked. Back to the current issue, we have been perfectly polite to the landlord from the start. Although this may just be my opinion, but there is no reason for me to be rude to a stranger. However, the attitude of our landlord was of a complete different note. From the start, she appeared irritated and spoke to us in a condescending tone. It wasn't clear what we have done to evoke such menace. Sure enough, our relationship continued to sour. Not that maintaining the house in utmost condition helped to pacify her.
Finally, we have decided to break off from her. The situation was tense when discussing with her but I supposed it was inevitable. With no housing and the piling course materials to be read, summer has turned out to be really out of our comfort zone.
