Another thing we had to accomplish in Boston was whale watching. After considering the limited time we had left in Boston and choosing a perfect day, we were off!
Getting tickets for our whale watching
Whale watching in Boston is very popular with tourists to the point where we ran out of tickets for the afternoon trip. In the end, we had to book for the 1730h one, which was five hours away. Anyway, it turned out that the evening time was great since it was the time when the whales were feeding and we could also catch the sunset. With such a long time to while away, we went to Quincy market to settle our lunch (we ate teriyaki chicken rice) and explored the harbor area.
With an hour left to our ride, we went to queue and realised that we were the first in line. Under the overbearing sun, we decided to stay in the shade and waited for more people to arrive before making our move. Besides, we didn't know where was the best spot on the boat.
Leaving Boston
Away we went for an hour plus of boat ride before reaching the location for whale sighting. Meanwhile, people started staking out their position at the rail. It seemed like the best position was to stand around in the ferocious wind...
First sighting of whale
Finally, whales! (although some people were complaining that since we have sighted whales, we wouldn't get our refunds) We were told that we will be seeing humpback and minke whales. Super excited! (although my favourite is still killer whales)
More whales!
Well, we spent close to an hour watching the whales feed and tail/fin breach. It was a pity that they didn't do any head breaching... It would have been awesome... Meanwhile, I was off capturing some sunset shots. I've to say that the sunset was much better than an Egypt or Santorini. It was simply idyllic, if only some whales could jump out of the water then.
